Note that per fleet you shouldn´t use more than 4 carriers, because they get an penalty for crowded airspace in naval battles when using more. Just be smart about when you engage and try to have land based air cover to compensate.Main battle fleet if carrier focus.

After around 50 hours in I understand most of the mechanics but I would like to know what the best fleet composition is.

If I automatically split fleets into balanced task forces and then adjust the numbers of ships in the task force, they don't automatically move around the fleet?

I hope you guys have learned something from this as I have used a lot of stuff from this guys video: Edit: Something I wanted to add is that if you just do naval focuses and put a bit of industry into developing your naval dockyards, you will be able to beat the ai navy very easily even if you are using a naval composition that is more historical and balanced just because the ai hardly builds any naval dockyards outside of focuses. Try playing as the axis and see if you enjoy watching your fuel plummet like that with your entire fleet steaming round and round in circles in a sea zone.A lot of good thoughts in this thread already, but IMO the really big change to the meta that's coming is the significance of speed.

The only reason a weaker fleet comes out of its ports to play is when a naval invasion is imminent and there's nothing to lose with a Hail Mary attack. But if you want to I recommend building a separate fleet just for that. For invasion support, just switch your strike force to support the landings. On the note of carriers, naval bombers and fighters are the only planes worth having, as any cas/tactical bombers/heavy fighters will do no damage to the enemy fleet and heavy fighters are inferior to normal fighters, and it would be good to have about 1 carrier naval bomber to every 2 carrier fighters. I explain it all here:Quick follow up video to the fleet composition video.

Patrol Fleet CV - 4CV, 2BB, 2BC, 4CA, 12CL and 24DD Patrol fleets non CV - 3BC, 6CL and 9DD (In pacific I use 9CL and 18DD) Anti-sub/Convoy Escort - 12DD Convoy raiding sub fleet - 10SS.

My sub fleets are just death stacks of submarines where I just make infinite subs and assign them to fleets. Collectively, the player's ships are referred to as the navy. For organisation and control, the navy is divided into one or more fleets. With battles being less decisive and fleets having more time to disengage, and varying settings for fleet aggressiveness, being able to get your ships both in and out of combat faster is a huge factor in the amount of damage you inflict in advantageous battles and damage you avoid in disadvantaged fights.Doom stacks don't work any more [citation needed].

The japanese tried to ambush my invasion fleet, and my stacked carriers took out about half their navy. You probably want to have some destroyers and light cruisers in your strike force, just to defend it from planes and subs in case the task force that has entered the battle is lacking these ships.I just finished a US game with only using historical compensations and it didn't work out too well. Fleets can range from being vital to impractical in the game depending on what country a player chooses. If you do not destroy the submarines and launch a naval invasion (or have trade routes going through said naval region), the convoys will be sunk, and, if you are launching a naval invasion, the units will be lost en masse.Another thing to note is that while carrier planes are more effective as they can attack more than once in a battle, it is still very worth it to have naval bombers and fighters deployed from an air base near the ocean you are fighting in, as it will bolster your initial air superiority and bombing and give you an edge before the ships even engage. They'll escort your ships and provide naval fire during the landings. For my fleet comp, I focused a lot on carriers and heavy cruisers, since battleships were limited by the naval treaty.
These tend to be the backbone of your fleet as the allies since German AI tends to be pretty clever with convoy raiding and really does not have a surface fleet to speak of outside the Baltic. You don't need CV to be impactful.

It would suck to build up a battleship fleet for 4 years, only to loose everything in the first battle because you fucked up fleet composition.I just gave up on it for now until smarter people figure it out.
